Blackwood River Arts Trail 2024

Past Event

Now in its fourth year, BRAT presents 67 artists opening their home studios for an intriguing glimpse into their processes and creative environments; as well as exhibitions held in more than 35 venues including cafes, gardens, gift shops, small galleries and collective spaces. Visitors love that many of the venues are within or close to town centres, allowing them to wander the character-filled streets of these beautiful regional towns and villages. There are also studios further afield that offer the opportunity to discover the scenic landscapes surrounding charming country roads that wind their way through rural and bush landscapes. Work on display includes that of award-winning artists such as painters Lori Pensini, John Garde and Miranda Free, renowned sculptor Kim Perrier, weaver Liz Janney and many more. A range of artforms can be found along the trail including sculpture, painting, ceramics, textile and wearable art, mosaics, weaving, felting, illustration and photography. There is also the opportunity to participate in a variety of creative workshops offered by artists along the trail. An additional initiative that supports another branch of the Arts is the Blackwood River Film Festival, showing films by Australian film makers on the first (Bridgetown) and third (Nannup) weekends of the trail. Catch three feature films and eight short films that feature local talent for a low cost entry fee of $10. Screenings are at the Repertory Theatre Bridgetown on Saturday 23 March and Sunday 24 March at 4pm and 7pm. On Saturday 6 April and Sunday 7 April they are at the Nannup Town Hall at 2pm, 4pm and 7pm. All details about the Blackwood River Arts Trail and the Blackwood River Film Festival, including a lift-out trail map, will be available from 1 March 2024 in the handy printed guide available from Jacksons Drawing Supplies. You can view the online trail guide here, all information is available at www.blackwoodriverartstrail.com . Other attractions in this beautiful region include walking, horse and world class cycling trails, great food and wine from boutique producers and many unusual and intriguing shops staffed by friendly locals. The Blackwood River Arts Trail offers a unique reason for a weekend or mid-week getaway, and an opportunity to come and meet local artists and makers in the heart of the South West, hidden gems, that will make it a holiday to remember.
